- Take 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped + extra for garnish
- Get 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
- Prepare To taste kosher salt and black pepper
Pour water into a pressure cooker. Add split peas, ham hock, onion, celery, thyme, garlic powder, and black pepper. Close cooker securely and place pressure regulator over vent according to manufacturer's instructions. Bring to high pressure; adjust temperature until.
Instructions to make Dal with Split Peas (pressure cooker):
- Wash the split peas few times, set aside
- Using pressure cooker: add vegetable oil, stir fry onions and a pinch of salt and sauté until softened, 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in garlic, ginger, coriander, turmeric, cumin, and cayenne and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add split peas, water, tomatoes, salt and stir to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pressure cooker.
- Cover and seal the lid. Cook it for 10 minutes
- Once the 10 minutes are up, allow the pressure to release naturally
- Open the lid, stir in the cilantro (i didn’t have cilantro at that moment so i didn’t use it) and season with additional salt and pepper, to taste.
- Serve with basmati rice, or wrap (add chicken,spinach and use the dal for the spread. Super yummy!)
