- Get 1 cup grated coconut

Chayote Squash generally tastes bland but gets blended very well with other flavours and dishes made from it tastes very vdelicious. Chayote skin chutney is prepared with chayote peel. After preparing Kottu with chow chow instead of discarding the outer skin make this chutney.
Steps to make Chayote Peel Chutney:
- Heat oil and fry garlic till golden brown.
- Add peel of chayote and green chilli, saute for 2 minutes.
- Add salt and water.
- Followed by turmeric powder, tamarind pulp and close the lid to cook.
- Check the cookness, add pepper powder and coconut.
- Again close the lid and cook until water completely absorbed, switch off and allow it to cool.
- Now grind it smoothly without water.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
Thick Chayote thogayal can be mixed with rice with a fallow of sesame oil, or little watery chutney tastes great with tiffin varieties like idli, dosai, paniyaram etc. Peel the outer skin from the chayote. Remove the center portion as well. Add in the channa dal, Urad Dal and dry red chillis and start frying. When colour of this mix turns golden, and the peels become very nice, add asafoetida power and salt into it and stir the mix well and put off the stove.
